Caradon 2 – 3 PGSOB B

PG’s record their second 3-2 win in successive weeks.

Once again the brief this week was to replicate last week’s performance, with warnings not to be caught on the break against a quick Caradon side.  PG’s started off much better this week, using short quick passing and movement to create some threatening moves.  Unfortunately this tailed off quickly and whilst we didn’t play terrible hockey, we certainly knew we were capable of much more.  This was very frustrating as a lack of consistency between games seems to hamper our ability to perform to our best.  Caradon opened the scoring in the first half after some good goalkeeping from Dan Hussey and resolute defending from Mike Timson on the line, with every block falling straight to another opposition player.  Despite Westy giving Dan Vaughan a can of Red Bull before the start of the game to wake him up, he forgot to drink it all and it had no effect on his level of alertness.  Hopefully some speed next week will wake him up.

The 3rds were required to fight back to ensure they came away from Liskeard with any points and in the second half they did just that.  Ben Vince levelled the score not long into the half with a fantastic REVERSE shot from 6 inches, after the ball somehow reached him following a good drive along the by-line from Dan Bruce.  PG’s then took the lead through Lee Thomas and a cleverly worked short corner routine.  The ball was slipped to Lee on the left of the D who slapped it over the horizontal keeper, just hitting the backboard.  Biscuit was unable to get there this time to add to his tally.  Caradon pegged PG’s back with an equaliser, after a free hit was given that left the away side flummoxed.  PG’s got a late winner thanks to a penalty flick, after a Caradon player stopped the ball on the line with his shin from a Biscuit strike at a short corner.    Dan Bruce stepped up and scored the flick twice, after the first one was deemed incorrectly taken.  Sherlock Holmes was called in to solve that mystery.  This week it was Westy’s turn to act like a girl when he got hit, with even his lovely wife Claire laughing at the calls to ‘man up’.  This victory should secure us 5th spot in the league, but as the tables have not been updated at the time of writing, I don’t know the full situation.  Let’s hope for revenge against St Austell next week in the last game of the season to sign it off in style.

Man:  Dan Bruce by a country mile for a good all round performance up front.

Dog:  Lamby, because everyone wants him to be Dog of the Season.
