PGs 3, City of Bath1

It was back to winning ways in PG’s last game of the season as they beat traveling City of Bath 3-1 in an open and expansive game.

PG’s created several chances in the first half but were unable to captialise, with the forwards working hard to get into the right positions but unable to get the ball across the line.  Sam Knapman, having just got on the pitch for injured AJ, found himself back on the sidelines in minutes when in classic Stewart Pearce style trapped the ball beautifully with his feet, having completely missed with his stick – yellow card, see you later.  That was really the highlight of the first half, with the scores tied 0-0 at half time.

PG’s came out after the break far more switched on, and two goals in quick succession was the result as Milbourn continued to graft effortlessly in midfield and Brooker controlled the game from his new role at centre half.  It was squeaky clean Downton who was next to feel the brunt of Mr Harvey, as he to dusted off his yellow card and raised it high into the air as he considered Downton to have deliberately broken down play.  With PG’s again down to ten men it was Bath was capitalised when some great skills from their forward line, met by static defending from PG’s, saw them put one past Blundy giving them a chance to get back into the game.  PG’s then reinstated their two goal cushion, with the game finishing 3-1.

Downton picked up dog, for nothing more than some team building banter at the start of the game (I won’t bother speaking at all next time – if it had been for the yellow I would have accepted it), with Sam Knapman merely a spectator as the votes were counted.  Lloyd Milbourn picked up man of the match for his all round leg work and enthusiasm for the game.  With the captain introducing the fact that Cup games do count in the voting and with the Yeovil and Sherborne results still being debated, the dog of the season candidates still nervously await the outcome, and with two games to go, there remains three candidates in the race.  The tickets for Downtons dog bowl bonanza are selling well – friends and family welcome!
