PG's 1st team beat travelling UWE at Stonehouse
It was boom time at Fortress Stonehouse as PG’s 1st XI turned over top of the table UWE 2-0. From the outset the travelling side appeared to lack the venom expected from a side with such an impressive league record and PG’s took full advantage scoring midway through the first half with youngster Lewis finishing from close range to put the home side 1-0 in front. PG’s composure under pressure both on and off the ball was a marked improvement from previous weeks, and it could have been more but PG’s were unable to capitalise on a first half which they dominated. Following the break UWE began to win short corners and were still well in the game but PG’s defence held strong throughout the period of sustained pressure. PG’s continued to cause UWE problems with an attack spearheaded by Man of the Match Roberts who chased lost causes and pulled the oppositions defence all over the park with his pace and cutting edge. Ben Newman, whose distribution was solid throughout, completed the home sides win, swooping in within the last couple of minutes to put the home side 2-0 in front. Delighted with their performance PG’s now look forward to a cup game against local rivals Tavistock, taking the positive attitude they have started to build into what will be an extremely competitive start to the new year.
