Physical & Mental Well-being

Having entered a second national lockdown it is as important now as it has ever been to retain focus and stay resilient for yourself and your peers.

PG’s has always aimed to provide an inclusive and supportive environment that instills positive values within its membership.

We may not be able to continue our efforts on the pitch (or in the pub) for the foreseeable, but the digital world can keep us connected, still feeling part of the group.  We have some online fitness sessions alongside Plymouth University starting on Wednesday - login if you feel you can.

Here are some principles to reflect on and practice while we take a break from pitch-based activities:

1. Club cohesion – Is there something you want to contribute?  What ideas do you have?  What may seem like a small gesture could make a big difference to others. Speak with the Committee, Development / Coaching
team or a Captain to see where you can help.

2. Individual purpose – maintaining a work ethic and embracing your team’s values will offer a clear direction for your energy. Getting some cardio in the open air is a great way to settle the mind, so don’t forget to take a break from the screen(s) and head outside.

3. Stay active - Join in on an online training session and invite a friend or partner.  Share your personal sessions with your mates; it will help keep you and them engaged.

4. Connect –When you’ve got some down time, make a call or send a text. It’s always nice to hear from someone. The pubs are shut but sharing a laugh over a drink online can be good for the soul.

5. Faith – Trust in yourself and others. You should expect your mood to fluctuate, it’s completely natural, what matters is how you deal with it.  Be patient with yourself; often the best thing you can do is to pause, reset and go again.

6. Happy environment – Environment is key and its effect is cyclical. Be mindful of your actions and aim to be a positive contributor.  Strong interpersonal relationships with the coaching guys, friends and family will continue to provide a positive, cohesive and supportive environment, which in turn creates positive and supportive individuals.

Like the old saying goes, “A successful team beats with one heart.”
